As of May 5th, 2022, I’m pleased to announce that I have successfully completed all of the examination requirements set out by the College of Massage Therapy of British Columbia, and have officially achieved the professional designation of a Registered Massage Therapist in the province of BC.
My journey to becoming an RMT began 3 years ago while I was busy working as the Chef de Partie in the massive kitchen of the Sparkling Hill Wellness resort just outside Vernon BC. At the time I was accustomed to working long hours on my feet during evenings, weekends, and holidays. While I loved working as a Chef, after more than 15 years of experience in the culinary industry I was looking for a new challenge that would also provide the opportunity to move into a career that could offer a more balanced work-life schedule. It was then and there that I decided after another busy holiday season, I would take the first step in my journey to becoming an RMT by giving notice, and applying to become a student of the registered massage therapy training program in Vernon BC.
In January 2020, I took the plunge and enrolled at the Okanagan Valley College of Massage Therapy, Canada’s first nationally accredited college of massage. OVCMT is renowned as the school that set the standard for educational requirements across the nation and has been shaping the future of Registered Massage Therapy in BC since 1992. During my time at OV, the college was also recognized as Canada’s first massage training program to receive a score of 100% during the semi-annual accreditation review conducted by the Canadian Massage Therapy Council for Accreditation who are responsible for maintaining a program’s commitment to quality, ethics, safety, and ongoing improvement.
During my time at OV, I became thoroughly engaged with the curriculum and thoroughly enjoyed practicing and implementing the new techniques I was learning about assessment, strength testing, myofascial release, neuromuscular therapy, hydrotherapy, as well as various forms of therapeutic exercise. During this time I was also given the opportunity to learn hands-on with my instructors and clients from the local community as we worked together to help develop treatment plans that were focused on the rehabilitation goals of the clientele, many of whom were able to make full recoveries from their previous injuries. Then it happened, in November of 2021, after 2 long years of studying, I finally finished the intensive RMT training program and continued on to complete all my exams in April of 2022.
Living the RMT dream here on Vancouver Island
After graduation, my partner Kristine and I moved from the Okanagan to Victoria BC in order to be closer to family. We are feeling very fortunate to have the opportunity to live and work in one of the most rugged, diverse, and beautiful regions of this amazing province, and we are definitely beginning to embrace that laid-back lifestyle that the West Coast of Canada is so well-known for. When we have time away from our practices Both Kristine and I can be found heading out into the backcountry to explore all of the mysteries and wonders that Vancouver Island has to offer. At this time we are feeling so fortunate to be here, and would like to thank the community for welcoming us with such enthusiasm! We look forward to making this our new forever home, and hope to make plenty of new friends and memories together for many years to come!
Thank you for your continued support,
